Getting agreement on technical subjects requires a lot of effort, on the part of individuals and organizations. \u00a0The broader in scope the intended standard, the greater is the requirement for simple, clear language, meaning and function. Importantly, the greater is the requirement for diverse community input, if not agreement.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/wicg\/\" target=\"_blank\">Web Incubator Community Group<\/a>\u00a0(WICG) was created from the successful experience of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/respimg\/\" target=\"_blank\">Responsive Images Community Group<\/a>, in order to facilitate broader contribution to the\u00a0development\u00a0of Web standards that respond to community needs.<\/p>\n<p>Realizing that <a href=\"https:\/\/discourse.wicg.io\/faq\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">mailing lists are not always the most productive environment<\/a> in which to develop standards, the WICG hosts a <a href=\"https:\/\/discourse.wicg.io\/t\/welcome-to-specifiction\/6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">discussion resource<\/a>\u00a0for the Web standards community\u00a0based on\u00a0the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.discourse.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Discourse platform<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/discourse.wicg.io\/about\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">they<\/a> have graciously accepted to host a category dedicated to <a href=\"https:\/\/discourse.wicg.io\/c\/web-mapping\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Web mapping<\/a> for the use of our and related communities.<\/p>\n<p>The Maps For HTML Community Group is dedicated to the development of Web standards which support Web mapping, which with your help, will lead to integration of maps into the Web platform.<\/p>\n<p>Please <a href=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/wp-login.php?redirect_to=%2Fcommunity%2Fmaps4html%2Fjoin\" target=\"_blank\">join us<\/a>, and contribute to the grassroots of the <a href=\"https:\/\/discourse.wicg.io\/c\/web-mapping\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\">Web mapping<\/a> standards development process!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Standards are hard. \u00a0Just ask anyone who has been in the trenches of standards organizations working for the Web.
