The Human Services Community Group<\/a> has been launched:<\/p>\n

Goals<\/p>\n

The goals of the Community Group on Human Service Data are to:<\/p>\n

1. Create an ongoing conversation space around data standards in the human service sector that will involve stakeholders from multiple perspectives including:<\/p>\n

1a. Both government human service agencies and nonprofits\/charities;<\/p>\n

1b. Diverse substantive areas (e.g. welfare benefits eligibility, information and referral services, homelessness, substance abuse, child welfare, juvenile justice, etc.);<\/p>\n

1c. Diverse stakeholder purposes including exchange of data for operational purposes and collection of
\ndata for performance measurement, evaluation and policy research.<\/p>\n

2. Facilitate the development, improvement and convergence of human service data standards, vocabularies, ontologies, and domain models by:<\/p>\n

2a. Fostering wider recognition of existing efforts and artifacts;<\/p>\n

2b. Analyzing the strengths, limitations, and areas of overlap, agreement and divergence of existing efforts and artifacts;<\/p>\n

2c. Identifying areas where standards do not yet exist but are needed;<\/p>\n

2d. Convening working groups of diverse composition to develop and improve standards;<\/p>\n

2e. Promoting the adoption of standards.<\/p>\n

Scope of Work<\/p>\n

The boundary of the Community Group\u2019s work is the set of
\nsubstantive areas which are recognized in the United States
\nand\/or internationally as falling within the human service
\nsector. This includes but is not limited to information and
\nreferral services, income support and other welfare benefits,
\nemployment training, homelessness, substance abuse, mental
\nhealth, child welfare, juvenile justice, domestic violence, and
\nsenior services.<\/p>\n

The borders between the human service sector on the one hand and
\nthe health, education and justice sectors on the other hand are
\nnot firmly defined. The community group will be open to working
\non any area that is related to the human services and is not
\nentirely within the boundaries of the health, education or
\njustice sectors.<\/p>\n

Dependencies or Liaisons<\/p>\n

The Community Group will seek to form relationships with organizations including but not limited to<\/p>\n

*Sustainable Development Goals Interface Ontology (SDGIO) on support of United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Project<\/p>\n

* Human Service Information Technology Applications (HUSITA)<\/p>\n

*Health Level Seven<\/p>\n

This is a community initiative. This group was originally proposed on 2014-05-12 by Eric Jahn. The following people supported its creation: Eric Jahn, Derek Coursen, Brian Sokol, Luke Scriver, Jahmal Brown. W3C’s hosting of this group does not imply endorsement of its activities.<\/p>\n
