{"id":35,"date":"2026-04-08T16:59:31","date_gmt":"2026-04-08T16:59:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/civics\/?p=35"},"modified":"2026-04-17T18:12:32","modified_gmt":"2026-04-17T18:12:32","slug":"civic-technology-regulatory-compliance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/civics\/2026\/04\/08\/civic-technology-regulatory-compliance\/","title":{"rendered":"Civic Technology Regulatory Compliance"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/civism\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><strong><u>Civism<\/u><\/strong><\/a> is itself a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><u>technology<\/u><\/a>, to be more precise it is the ultimate&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Civilizing_Process\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><u>civilizing process<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Social_technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><u>social technology<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;since ancient times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Civics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><strong><u>Civics<\/u><\/strong><\/a> is civism&#8217;s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.diplomacy.edu\/technology-and-diplomacy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><u>diplomatic technology<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;to establish the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Rule_of_law\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><u>rule of law (RoL)<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;under&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Civic_studies\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><u>civic studies<\/u><\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Civic_political_culture\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><u>civic culture<\/u><\/a>, and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Civic_virtue\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><u>civic virtues<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Citizenship_education_(subject)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><strong><u>Civic education<\/u><\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;is civics&#8217;s&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Educational_technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><u>educational technology (EdTech)<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;to establish&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Civic_engagement\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><u>civic engagement<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;between citizens, grassroots civil movements, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), governments, international nongovernmental organizations (INGOs), and inter-governmental organizations (IGO).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Civic_technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><strong><u>Civic technology (CivicTech)<\/u><\/strong><\/a> being under the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Social_responsibility\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><u>civic responsibility<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;to help in the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Standardization\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><u>standardization<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;of civic education, civics, and civism; makes it inherently dependent to the establishment of proper&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.academia.edu\/143169562\/Open_Internet\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><u>open internet<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.academia.edu\/158815102\/Open_Source_Digital_Public_Infrastructure_OSDPI_\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><u>digital public infrastructure (DPI)<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikibooks.org\/wiki\/Public_International_Law\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><u>public international law (PIL)<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Regulatory_compliance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><u>regulatory compliance<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;and their due&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Legal_technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><u>legal technologies (LegalTechs)<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Regulatory_technology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><u>regulatory technologies (RegTechs)<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/civicdatadesignlab.mit.edu\/People-Powered-Gen-AI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><strong><u>Civic data<\/u><\/strong><\/a> being a currency of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Data_economy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><u>data economy<\/u><\/a>, so requiring civic technologies (CivicTechs)&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fair_trade\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><u>fair trade<\/u><\/a>,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Regulatory_economics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><u>regulatory economics<\/u><\/a>, and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/unece.org\/trade\/wp6\/market-surveillance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><u>markets surveillance<\/u><\/a>, depend on its&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Interoperability\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><u>interoperability<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;which must be standardized under&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/w3.org\/2001\/sw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><u>semantic web (SW)<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Semantic_interoperability\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><u>semantic interoperability<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ontology_alignment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><u>interontological alignment<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Controlled_vocabulary\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><u>controlled vocabularies<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ontology_engineering\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><u>ontology engineering<\/u><\/a>.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.academia.edu\/145734647\/Open_Source_Semantic_Web_Ontology_OSSWO_\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><u>The Open Source Semantic Web Ontology (OSSWO)<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;may be of assistance in this development secure operations (DevSecOps).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Civic_statistics\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><strong><u>Civic statistics<\/u><\/strong><\/a> required for proper&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Open_governance\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><u>open governance<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Open_government\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><u>open government<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Metrology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><u>metrology<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.govtechsummit.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><u>governmental technologies (GovTechs)<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;may also profit from how semantic web ontology can assist in the regulatory compliance of&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Algorithm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><u>algorithms<\/u><\/a>, their supervised&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Machine_learning\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><u>machine learning (ML)<\/u><\/a>, and unsupervised&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Artificial_intelligence\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><u>artificial intelligence (AI)<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dependency\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><u>dependency analysis<\/u><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/community\/civics\/\"><strong><u>Civic Technology Community Group (CTCG)<\/u><\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;is, because all of that, another imprescindible&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/\"><u>World Wide Web Consortium (W3C)<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Open_science\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow\"><u>open science<\/u><\/a>&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.w3.org\/groups\/\"><u>research group<\/u><\/a>.
