Taxonomy of argument types

This list roughly categorizes argument types by motivation and generating circumstances. There is some overlap between items.
Rationales | Arguments intended as documentation, such as for a policy, project, or design. |
Disputes | Arguments created in an adversarial process. |
Proofs | Proofs and other technical arguments which aspire to be airtight, often for technical papers or instructional material. This does not include machine-generated arguments. |
Machine-generated | Arguments generated mechanically, for instance the output of a theorem prover. |
Transcriptions | Arguments transcribed from other media or formats, such as transcriptions of legal reasoning or disputes. |
Fragments | Short fragments of arguments within non-argument documents. |
