Taxonomy of argument types

This list roughly categorizes argument types by motivation and generating circumstances. There is some overlap between items.

Argument types
Rationales Arguments intended as documentation, such as for a policy, project, or design.
Disputes Arguments created in an adversarial process.
Proofs Proofs and other technical arguments which aspire to be airtight, often for technical papers or instructional material. This does not include machine-generated arguments.
Machine-generated Arguments generated mechanically, for instance the output of a theorem prover.
Transcriptions Arguments transcribed from other media or formats, such as transcriptions of legal reasoning or disputes.
Fragments Short fragments of arguments within non-argument documents.
