Maps
This map to Talisman
Resort
leads you from Toronto Pearson International Airport to Gray Roads #13 & #7.
Our meetings will be held at Murray Maloney's compound, just north of Talisman
a few kilometers, at Sideroad 22B. Actually, Sideroad 22B is almost half way
between Kimberley and Meaford.
This
map
provides a view of part of Gray County. The line of green dots indicates
a local section of the Bruce Trail.
Near the upper right, you can see Epping and Fairmount along Gray Road 7.
Between them, the Bruce Trail turns to the east along Sideroad 22B, and
runs alongside and through Murray's property.
Also make note of Rocklyn where an inexpensive B&B is located (see below)
Transportation
First you have to get yourself to Toronto. For our purposes, it is assumed
that your starting point is Toronto's Pearson International Airport (YYZ).
From Pearson (YYZ) there are essentially three ways for you to get here.
- Rent a car and use the
map
provided, along with textual instructions which are to follow.
This is the every man for himself model.
Collaboration among participating members is encouraged.
If you favor this option please let Murray know early so that
he can eliminate you from the lists for options 2 & 3.
- A passenger van collects 8-10 people at Pearson (YYZ).
This is the one-for-all model, wherein Murray arranges for a
company to collect you and deliver you to respective hotels and B&B's,
and subsequently deliver you back to Pearson on the weekend.
Collaboration among participating members is required to the extent
that committments must be made by a sufficient number of people, and
coordinated to arriving and departing passenger schedules.
If you favor this option please let Murray know early so that
he can attempt to coordinate scheduls and numbers and to determine
approximate cost per person.
- Assuming that the other options are not going to work for you,
Murray might be able to transport up to three passengers with nominal luggage.
Collaboration among participating members is required to the extent
that committments must be made by a sufficient number of people, and
coordinated to arriving and departing passenger schedules.
Cell phones will be required. Late night arrivals deprecated.
For those of you who are going on to Montreal for Extreme Markup,
you can simply return to Pearson (YYZ) and fly to Montreal, or you
may choose to take a train or drive. If you need any information
to help arrange your return travel, send an email to Murray,
otherwise it is assumed that you have it all worked out. There
are simply too many schedule and mode options to hope to review here.

Dinners and Evening Plans
- Assuming that everyone is arriving on Tuesday,
but that schedules will be uncertain at best,
Murray will be prepared to receive early-birds
for cocktails on Tuesday evening and potentially
lead a group to a local eatery or BBQ some burgers and dogs.
- On Wednesday we will all head out to a local road house
for dinner and entertainment. Ted's Range Road Diner has to be
experienced at least once. It's a bizarre menu, but there is something
for almost everybody. At 9:30, local musicians perform rock, country
and blues for your entertainment. It's a jam, so feel free to step up
and play a few licks or belt one out. Dress down. Designated drivers
required.
- On Thursday evening, we will dine in the town of Meaford and thereafter
attend 'The Drawer Boy' at the newly renovated Meaford Opera House.
The play is billed as a genuinely funny story set on an Ontario farm.
TIME magazine called it one of the ten best of 2001
- On Friday, a summer BBQ feast at the poolside patio. Bring along a
bottle of wine, a favorite cheese, or any consumable item that you would like to
share with your fellow XML Pipe Liners. If there is dish that you enjoy
preparing,
check with Murray about your needs for access to specialized utensils or
equipment.
- Depending on how many decide to linger a little longer in this pastoral
setting.
Saturday, plans could include a hike, caving, water sports or just plain old
loafing around the pool. Dinner plans to be determined later.
- On Sunday, Murray will lead a convoy to Montreal to attend Extreme Markup
Up to three passengers can accompany Murray on the nine hour drive.
Let Murray know if you want/need a ride.
