Usage Scenarios for WCAG 2.0
This is an attempt to collect information about
- the people who will attempt to use WCAG 2.0,
- the roles and contexts that those people will be working in,
- the pieces that the W3C offers in relation to WCAG 2.0,
- the various doors that people may walk through to enter the WCAG 2.0
universe.
Why do this?
To better understand who will be using our materials and how the materials
will be used so that we create an informed design.
Status of this document
This is an exploration piece and does not reflect consensus by any W3C
working group. It is intended to outline issues for discussion within the
WCAG WG as we design the WCAG 2.0 suite of materials. It is not complete and
it may not be accurate. It may become obsolete at any time.
Who uses what
This is a matrix of the people who might use WCAG 2.0-related documents
and how integral each document is to the role that the person plays in the
development process. The table is not yet complete. If you are unable to
access the table, the data is summarized by role in the Scenarios section of this document.
key:
- 1 = review at least once
- ~ = not necessary for the job
- x = primary resource
These section spells out the data from the above table in more detail and
prose. Not yet complete.

Personas
- The cast from "How
People with Disabilities Use the Web." Will content that conforms to
WCAG 2.0 satisfy all of their needs?
- e.g. Can Mr. Lee
use a site that conforms to WCAG 2.0? What checkpoints are most
critical for him? This information could result in an "impact matrix"
- a product that many people would like to see developed.
- The cast from the Device
Independence Scenario Repository (member-only). Currently, there are
three members of the cast who are users of mobile technology rather than
authors.
- We ought to develop a cast of personas that represent the variety of
users of the WCAG 2.0 materials. The case could be developed to cover the
roles as discussed above and allow us to focus design decisions on
specific user needs and scenarios. It could also help us determine which
products EO WG should develop and which WCAG WG should develop.
