The Identification Of Horizontal Rules In HTML Pages

The following assumption seems appropriate for HR image size: (width > 400) and (height < 30).

Most of the HR images that I've looked at seem to fall within the above size category. However, I found a couple of cases where the height of HR image is greater than 30. There were also some HR images with length less than 400 pixels.

The HR element is used to visually separate sections of HTML document. They are usually found:

• Immediately before the subheading. (therefore separates previous content and this new content.)
• After a paragraph or a list to separate this and the next.

However, we cannot assume that a HR always appears in a these two locations in the HTML document The use of HR is not restricted to the above particular usage but is dependant on the web page creator.
