Branch with my draft: https://rawgit.com/w3c/aria/password-role/aria/aria.html#password

Michiel and Cynthia have indicated in the Github issue that they like it. So setting the state to Pending review.

New version at same location (https://rawgit.com/w3c/aria/password-role/aria/aria.html#password)

Of course, the right paren tracker added to the link is bogus.

Consensus from today's ARIA concall: Accept the role, with small editorial change to shorten definition to "An input for entering a password." (Change already made.) Rich will issue the 7-day CfC. If accepted, I will merge the branch and close this action.

Note to self: If we commit this to master, we would want to include a note stating that this feature is "under discussion" (not "at risk") and that a security review has been requested and will take place prior to this feature becoming official.

From today's concall:

RESOLUTION: put password into 1.1 editors draft, meet with security group,
communicate with AT vendors to speak rendered text

Joanmarie Diggs, 7 Apr 2016, 17:10:12

Having heard back from Security, merged the new role into master:
https://github.com/w3c/aria/commit/e682a8d02

Closing this action.
