A couple of weeks ago, a company posted an advert here for a shareware ($10)
html to ascii converter.
I mentioned that I had written one back in 1994 and if anyone wanted the
source or DOS .exe they could have it for free. The response was quite
amazing, so I've put in on our ftp server. Feel free to use the .exe or
source for whatever (legal!) purpose you choose, without charge.

you downloaded a page from the web and wanted to read it, you had to sort
through all the HTML codes. Those days are past. Quail Stripper removes
the HTML codes from the file, without touching the text.

I had the same problem, so I wrote an HTML to ASCII converter. It has
some limitations right now -- The input name must have the extension
htm and the output is automatically named .txt and stored in the same
directory (overwriting any .txt file with the same name); it is limited
to 32KB files; and it's not extensively tested (in terms of eliminating
all possible HTML codes). But I have been using it personally for
months.
I had planned to clean up all of the problems and release it as
shareware, but never got around to it.
I'll send it to anybody who E-mail's me a request. Let me know if your
mail reader supports MIME or if you want me to send it UUencoded.
