Submission request to W3C (W3C Team Comment)


We, W3C member (MartSoft Corporation) hereby submit to the Consortium the following specification, comprising the following document(s) attached hereto:

  1. Extensible User Interface Protocol (XUP), contained in attached zip-file.

which collectively are referred to as "the submission". We request the submission be known as the XUP submission.

Abstract

The Extensible User Interface Protocol (XUP) is a SOAP-based protocol for communicating user interface events and updates on the web. It paves a foundation for developing and consuming highly interactive web applications and services. XUP may be used with any user interface model or any event model with an XML-based representation.

Change control

Should any changes be required to the specification, and should W3C take on the submission as part of an Activity, we expect future versions to be produced by W3C process. Otherwise, we may make changes and may re-submit the specification for acknowledgement.

Intellectual property Rights

Copyrights

MartSoft Corporation hereby grants to the W3C, a perpetual, nonexclusive, royalty-free, world-wide right and license under any MartSoft Corporation copyrights in this contribution to copy, publish and distribute the contribution under the W3C document licenses.

Additionally, should the submission be used as a contribution towards a W3C Activity, MartSoft Corporation grants a right and license of the same scope to any derivative works prepared by the W3C and based on, or incorporating all or part of, the contribution. MartSoft Corporation further agrees that any derivative works of this contribution prepared by the W3C shall be solely owned by the W3C.

Patents

MartSoft Corporation agrees that, upon adoption of this submission as a W3C Recommendation, it will grant to any party ("licensee") a Royalty-Free licence under MartSoft Corporation's applicable intellectual property rights essential to implement the Recommendation. One precondition of any such license granted to the licensee shall be the licensee's agreement to grant to MartSoft and other companies reciprocal royalty-free licenses to any intellectual property rights owned or controlled by the licensee necessary to implement the Recommendation. MartSoft expressly reserves all other rights it may have.

MartSoft expressly disclaims any and all warranties regarding this submission including any warranty that this submission does not violate the rights of others or is fit for a particular purpose.

Suggested action

We suggest that the Consortium publish the submission as a Note and include it as consideration in any emerging activities in the User Interface and/or Interaction Domain.

Resources

To help with this work, we expect to be able to provide requirements, information and background on the XUP specification, as well as participate in all relevant technical activities in this area.
