Files Controlling CERN Daemon

CERN Daemon versions 2.12 and later provide password and IP address protection. This documentation applies to only these new versions.

Rule file:
informs server about which directory trees are protected, and which are public. Rule file also specifies the protection setup file and process user and group ids.
Protection setup file:
gives valid authentication schemes, sets password and group file names, and other scheme-specific information. May also contains a mask giving access to a certain group (people and/or IP addresses) to an entire tree of documents.
Access Control List (ACL) file:
contains information about which people, groups and IP addresses are allowed to access which files in a single directory.
Password file:
contains the usernames and passwords of people that are known to that server.
Group file:
contains the group declarations (i.e. which users and IP addresses belong to which groups) that can be referenced from the protection setup and ACL files.
