The W3C Signed XML Workshop

The NEC Boston Technology Center has started the development of an eBusiness Solution Framework to serve the needs of distributed business communities (several hundred to a few thousand participants interacting with a large number of NEC business units). The key aspects of the framework are:

• Business process centric
• XML-based business data model
• Compliant with industry standard (RosettaNet, OBI …)
• Leverages the internet to exchange messages between business partners with an XML syntax

The security of such systems is critical success factor. It must support:

• Non-repudiation of business transactions
• Auditing of other business activities
• Pass-through content encryption and authentication
• Authentication of participants and message origination

Our group is interested in providing feedback to the applicability of various proposals to the context of distributed business systems as well as participating in the definition of internet-based security infrastructures.
