We can&apos;t use &quot;after&quot; since this is _defining_ the word &quot;after&quot;. (e.g. writing on roadways in English-speaking countries is written left-to-right bottom-to-top, with subsequent lines appearing &quot;after&quot; each other being above each other, not below.)</thetext>
