<thetext>Section: http://www.whatwg.org/specs/web-apps/current-work/#devices

Comment:
This 'Device' section finds the W3C sadly still oblivious of the opportunity
to integrate sensor-rich mobile devices into the web. What is wrong with
"generic"?! The standard should enable barcode readers, accelerometers,
thermometers, RFID readers, ... to be invoked from web clients. See
http://www.hpl.hp.com/techreports/2003/HPL-2003-52.html. Tim Kindberg

<thetext>It's only an early draft, primarily intended for video conferencing use cases. I would be very interested in examining other possible uses for it, though, that's why it's designed to be extensible.

What would be most useful here would be implementation experience — if a browser vendor could implement <device> and test it with barcode readers, accelerometers, thermometers, RFID readers, etc, we could see whether it's a good design.</thetext>
