    <thetext>Per my comment on #8096 (which is related), this allows resources to have multiple representations. That is, it avoids having to append prefixes to differentiate between representations (e.g. .txt, .pdf, .doc) by using the standard HTTP content negotiation mechanism (Accept: headers) and MIME types rather than by constructing a separate URL for each.
