The wording proposal can be seen at http://www.w3.org/XML/Group/2004/06/xmlschema-1/structures.omni-200803.html (member-only link) The description of the name/ref design pattern has been copied to section 3.1.2; some errors in the description were corrected (declarations with 'ref' attributes do not have to be empty, they can contain annotations, declarations with 'name' aren't always children of 'schema, etc.). The commentary on the example in section 3.6 has been changed to refer to the design pattern as already having been described, rather than mention it as a new topic; it has also been moved from the bottom of 3.6.2 to the top of 3.6 to be with the example being discussed. John, as the originator of the bug report, I hope that you will agree that the changes shown in the wording proposal resolve this issue satisfactorily. If you do agree, please change the status of the bug report from RESOLVED to CLOSED; if you don't, please change it to REOPENED and let us know what's wrong.
