Since the formal definitions do not serve to define the datatypes and are not referred to by hot-button links, it seems they should be simply statements about the datatypes, as is done in the descriptions that don't begin with a formal definition. In the course of that triage we decided to close this issue without further action. Since this is a WG issue, not an external one, I'm going both to mark it resolved and to close it.
