    <thetext>There appear to be no tests (other than error tests) that use last() outside a predicate (specifically, on the rhs of &quot;/&quot;). The same might also be true of position() - I haven&apos;t checked thoroughly. These expressions are not very useful but they need to be tested

Examples of such expressions are

//*/last()

//*/position()

//*/(position() = last())

or marginally more usefully

/x/y/subsequence($s, position(), 1)</thetext>
