It would be convenient if names for the different forms of validation were defined; this would make it easier for users and other specs to specify, when appropriate, that in a particular context a particular form of validation should or must be used. By analogy with the terms proposed for XML Schema 1.1 in http://www.w3.org/XML/Group/2004/06/xmlschema-1/structures.rq144.200502.html#validation_outcome (member-only link), I propose that XML Schema 1.0 be modified to provide the terms "type-driven validation", "element-driven validation", and "lax wildcard validation" for the three startup methods now defined in section 5.2.
