Such phrases should be replaced with more explicit ones, such as &quot;The computed value is&quot;, etc.

The last sentence of 9.3.1 (Choosing a positioning scheme: &apos;position&apos; property) is:

   # User agents may treat position as &apos;static&apos; on the root element.

What does this actually mean?  That the used value is &apos;static&apos;?

(Also, this information could ideally be repeated in 9.7 (Relationships 
between &apos;display&apos;, &apos;position&apos;, and &apos;float&apos;).)

    <thetext>&quot;computes to&quot; isn&apos;t vague at all. It means exactly what it says - it&apos;s defining the computed value.

If it&apos;s used in any other manner, it&apos;s an error and should be reported as such.</thetext>
