I just got a completely valid stylesheet even though some classes had underscores. I believe it is in the CSS1 specs in section 7.1. This should be rectified. The alternative is to generate a faithful scanner and parser for CSS1, which would, for example, have to forbid characters outside the repertoire of ISO 8859-1 yet allow bare digits at the start of class names. What other details have I forgotten? Who would be willing to uncover those details? Who would implement them?
