I see it being done on quite a few websites out there and it works. Which means that browsers really don't seem to mind. So why not specify it that way? Wasn't that one of the goals of HTML 5? To specify what's established practice? Not really. Browsers make it seem like it works.... as long as you don't do any of a long list of things. If you do any of them, it breaks.
