The choice of which definitions to use is ·implementation-defined·. Presumably the reference is to the metasymbol S (production 3). As such, the sentence is a little misleading and should be clarified. The resolution is that the text in section 7.3.5, fn:normalize-space() will be revised to say "The whitespace characters are defined in the meta symbol S (Production 3) in XML 1.0." We will also add an editor's note to say that this production is the same in XML 1.1 Recommendation.
