Carlton Online is a new company established by Carlton Communications Plc,
the UK screen-based media company, to create a number of businesses based
around the Internet and to capitalise on the creative and commercial
opportunities presented by interactive television.
Carlton Online is able to draw on the resources and expertise of all Carlton&
#146;s businesses.
Carlton Sales is one of the UKs leading advertising sales houses and
Carlton Television is a major producer, distributor and merchandiser of
original television programmes and films. Through Technicolor, Carlton has
well established relationships with Hollywood studios and with Quantel it
also has the world leader in the design and manufacture of creative image
processing products for the film, television, video, post- production and pre-
press industries.
Carlton owns 50% of British Digital Broadcasting (BDB), which has twenty four
year licences to one half of the UKs digital terrestrial capacity. BDB
is planning to launch its services in the autumn of this year.
Carlton Online has been strategically placed to maximise any interactive and
data broadcast developments throughout Carlton Communications.
Carlton Online hope to use the workshop to add to its understanding of all
the aspects and issues relating to the convergence of television and the web
and the problems and possibilities this convergence presents to broadcasters,
programme makers, advertisers, content providers and interface/content
designers.
