In this context, I use the work to
apply to the protocol, the data model
implied by the protocol, and the
software which uses the protocol.
The "system" can be said also to
include the practical way in which
it is used -- for example, FTP in
practice includes a convention for
anonymous FTP; and Usenet news incldues
conventions and etiquette.
