WAI announcements process changes coming (easier for you!) [from shawn] 17:35:23 zakim, take up item 2 17:35:23 agendum 2 -- WAI announcements process changes coming (easier for you!) -- taken up [from shawn] 17:35:57 shawn: Staff, chairs, and facilitators are more available for announcements. We are working on announcements templates. 17:36:36 ...and the announcement process. Tamsen is leading reviews of abstracts, introductions and SOTD of documents. 17:36:48 q+ 17:37:03 ack j 17:37:16 ...unless anyone objects, Tamsen will take over creating the announcements. 17:37:45 janina: Want to be able to carry forward the institutional knowledge we have on making announcements. 17:38:23 shawn: Agree, we've been having different people work in GitHub or in Google docs to draft announcements. 17:38:47 ...was difficult to have the announcements in different places, so having one method will be good. 17:38:51 zakim, take up next 17:38:51 agendum 3 -- [sub-topic] question 1. Google docs and sheets vs. GitHub ? -- taken up [from shawn] 17:39:20 shawn: Want input on this topic and screen reader accessibility 17:39:54 janina: Some will be happy with Google docs. Depends on the TF and how many screen reader users they have. 17:40:17 ...Are we settling into 2 different tools and how we decide on what tool to use. 17:40:46 ...most screen reader users export to Word and can then access it. But you lose the interactive aspect of editing. 17:41:22 shawn: Will continue to have templates in Google docs for now and will eventually have them ready in GitHub and the group can choose which they wish to use. 17:41:32 janina: Sounds fine. 17:41:58 q+ 17:42:12 shawn: If we had the list of publications in a Google sheet that you would only need to access occasionally, would that work? 17:42:26 ack kevin 17:43:11 agenda? 17:43:14 kevin: Would like to not have a Google spreadsheet, as it would be difficult to manage where things are in the process. 17:43:18 q- Daniel 17:43:57 Daniel: Agrees with Kevin. 17:44:05 zakim, next item 17:44:05 agendum 4 -- [sub-topic] question 1. Any input on format, tone, approach, etc. at this point ? -- taken up [from shawn] 17:44:50 shawn: Will come back to the group with specific, but wanted input on the format, tone, etc. If you have input, great to get now. 17:45:07 janina: Don't have anything specific now. 17:45:15 zakim, next item 17:45:15 agendum 5 -- Guidance for using Google Docs with screen reader -- taken up [from shawn] 17:46:16 daniel: This depends on your operating system. On windows, google docs essentially works ok (with some difficulty). On Mac, it isn't working at all. Missing a lot of characters and content. 17:46:41 s/On Mac,/On Mac and Linux, 17:46:44 ...can write guidance for people, but only on Windows are these useful. 17:47:21 ...with the WCAG2ICT task force, if you use Google Drive and put the Word documents on there you can synch up with that drive and get access to the content. 17:47:44 Janina: We don't want to force everyone onto Windows. 17:48:07 daniel: That's the high level overview. 17:48:51 Janina: would agree with that, and some have come up with keystrokes to get things to work but it's a burden for everyone to do. 17:49:51 kevin: Wanted to raise this as there were concerns expressed. Plus there's other tools we use that we want to make sure are accessible. 17:50:00 [ also Shawn has direct contacts with accessibility folks at GitHub ] 17:50:14 ...Leonie has inroads to GitHub and is getting issues fixed for screen reader users. 17:51:05 janina: Should get ahead of this in both environments so we can document issues and know what works. Others outside of WAI are using Google docs, so it would be good to get things documented so they can get fixed. 17:51:10 zakim, take up next 17:51:10 agendum 6 -- Any follow-up needed from last meeting?
