Meeting minutes

No meeting next week, join ACT-Rule F2F instead

Wilco: There is a F2F next week with the lovely Helen hosting :)

ACT rules sheet

Wilco: I am working on visible focus and will check the iFrame one

Kathy: I want some queries on scrollable content answered

Daniel: The page title one has open feedback from Jean-Yves

Trevor: Text content that changes automatically has some feedback I need to check in more detail from my feedback. I will chat with Carlos about the applicability

Wilco: That is a real struggle
… Heading is descriptive?

Todd: There are comments I need to address and want you to review it too Wilco

Open ACT pull requests

Wilco: #1926 - doesn't need to be in draft as Todd confirmed he has done the changes - Kathy and Trevor added to review
… #1925 - Oh I did work on my task - please review it people!
… #1923 - Jean-Yves we don't need to worry
… #1917 - the one I need to look at

Kathy: There is something failing I need to check

Wilco: #1916 from Trevor - it has a CR on it

Trevor: All changes have been addressed but need to talk to Carlos before proceeding

Wilco: Would a new PR suit instead?

Trevor: If this turns into a drag, then maybe, but all down to my chat with Carlos

Wilco: #1912 - we talked about
… #1855 - I do need to review this

Priority issues

Wilco: I have one update on lang and attribute lang. Discussed in the CG and they are planning to deprecate it. As Chrome no longer has issues with this and was the only browser that needed this to pass.
… We might take the priority label off - as not needed
… not much more progress has been made

AGWG survey new rules

Wilco: AGWG Surveyed a number of rules this week - the list is our workbook
… 5 of 6 are approved some with minor editorial changed

<Wilco> https://www.w3.org/WAI/standards-guidelines/act/rules/0va7u6/proposed/

Wilco: the one not approved is HTML graphics contain no text - the expectations caused the most issues
… we need to work on a new direction for this
… especially the use of "essential" in the expectations

Chris: As I am the lead, do you want me to make a start?

Wilco: I like taking on too much work so will do it myself

Wilco: I actually said, "I have already started and easier if I complete it on the changes requested"
… I don't think much is needed except for editorial changes so I will update it in one batch for all to review

Kathy: What was their take on "essential"?

Wilco: I know we have an open issue of how "essential" is too subjective to be used without a definition

Annual review of approved rules (Due 29 September)

Wilco: We will focus on the ready ones first

<Wilco> https://www.w3.org/WAI/standards-guidelines/act/rules/a25f45/

Wilco: Kathy has questions on the above

Kathy: I was not sure on the format of some of the examples

Wilco: Like on Passed example 3? These are explicit so ok to be duplicated in definitions in the code

Kathy: Ok - I feel happy then

Wilco: I am not happy with the use of ignoring the title attribute as no longer relevant in SR and browser combinations

Daniel: Yes that is true, I would love to work on this by checking it out and then updating the use of not using a title as not supported

Wilco: Ok - several rules are approved

<trevor> https://github.com/act-rules/act-rules.github.io/pull/1923

Trevor: Jean-Yves has the above issue to update it and maybe we should deprecate the Word and letter spacing rules?

Wilco: I think these are ok to stay - as not worth changing now

Trevor: I will agree to wait

Chris: I agree with Trevor for the future but it is fine here

Wilco: *Goes through several and marks them as agreed/ok
… we have 2 left to change then

Kathy: I noted some issues that you are now putting in the sheet

Helen: I will review mine and email it out to all

Orientation of the page is not restricted using CSS transform property

Wilco: We have 3 acceptances, 3 adjustments and 1 reject
… looks like mine, as assuming the script works as intended it could cause issues
… The failures of rotating the screen and items flowing out - valid point - I think we need to look at this
… Passed example 2 - the numbers are a bit extreme - Jean-Yves might've done this?

Kathy: What do those numbers mean?

Trevor: It is scientific large numbers that are basically 0

Kathy: Why didn't they use 0 instead?

Trevor: To prove it could be handled? I don't know

Wilco: I am adding notes to whoever takes this on in the sheet
… I don't think the open issues need to be resolved as per Chris' comment

Chris: One of the examples just opens in a new page it isn't showing so I think we need to get it rendering before we publish

Wilco: Yes we will be fixing that - thanks for bringing it up
… whoever takes this on should be a developer as need to fix the issue noted in the comments
… Agree to the editorial comments from Kathy
… Tom asked why is "namespaced elements" in the glossary? I don't know - because it is there?
… Adding it to the long list

<ChrisLoiselle> +1 to Helen as to why it passed.

Wilco: It is clear that this rule needs work - Chris?

Chris: Er...

Wilco: I will ask Trevor to help you out on the technical stuff

Wilco: It is not that technical...
