Meeting minutes

JF: Have completed re-structuring and layout of 2.0 and 3.0

Follow-up on i18n issue #144 actions https://github.com/w3c/personalization-semantics/issues/144

<becky> ack, jf

Lionel_Wolberger: Charles agreed to create an epub with Alice in Wonderland's first paragraph
… He will then recruit Steve to mark this up with suitable symbols.
… Janina will reach out to Steve.

janina: Then we need the same paragraph in Hebrew for RTL

Lionel_Wolberger: I reached out to the RTL symbol community, no responses yet.

Lionel_Wolberger: Matt will share an example of symbols on the samples page

Matthew_Atkinson: I was prioritizing TPAC work
… THinking out loud, I will have to inject images as well.

Lionel_Wolberger: The sample will support the presentation

janina: A sample with symbols would really help, particularly if we show RTL and LTR

TPAC scheduling and breakout session filed with APA by Lionel https://www.w3.org/WAI/APA/wiki/Meetings/TPAC_2021

Lisa: Suspects there are some confusions in the COGA/Personalization meeting.
… A focus at TPAC will be, regarding what organization will be behind our work
… if there is something that APA wants COGA to review before TPAC, APA should clarify that ASAP

janina: Agree, David may have miscommunicated what happened in APA
… We will be looking somewhat at modules 2 and 3, stylistically
… Unfortunately the TPAC meeting is still not scheduled
… we are open to talking about whatever COGA wants to know. Could focus on module 2, 2&3, whatever feels right
… Rain and janina did agree to schedule the COGA call at 9am, and there was a good conversation last week,
… this call will also occur tmw

Lionel_Wolberger: Should Personalization co-facilitators attend?

janina: Probably not necessary.

LisaSeemanKest: COGA has raised a page showing that it is getting ready for these meetings

Lionel_Wolberger: I am blocked Wed evening and Thursday morning EST (red eye)

Lionel_Wolberger: ... the 19th -- 20th

LisaSeemanKest: COGA is sending a message to the broader W3C: If you want your specification to meet COGA needs, then pay attention to
… content useable, with a focus on User Needs and User Stories
… for example Web Authentication needs this
… meeting COGA's outlined User Needs and User Stories makes your specification more robust

janina: Web Authentication had a productive meeting in Lisbon
… the spec itself was not an impediment, since it contained no UI/UX

Lionel_Wolberger: My proposal to go on this page, https://www.w3.org/wiki/TPAC/2021/SessionIdeas

Progress on the Personalization deck for TPAC (Matt)

<Matthew_Atkinson> Latest in the PR: https://github.com/w3c/personalization-semantics/pull/199

Matthew_Atkinson: Shared his draft and discussed his reasoning behind the draft.

LisaSeemanKest: I would highlight more the AAC-dependent user's experience, where they cannot even speak one to another, if the other users different symbols
… Dyscalculia is another good example, they do not know if 90% is a lot or a little
… Cognitive Load: I want important features. I want more features now, because I am ready...
… supporting people who are under stress

Lionel_Wolberger: The paragraph on the yoga teacher is meant to be read, like an audio book. But presentations are a matter of style.

becky: The Yoga teacher slide's purpose in that location is not clear

janina: Our goal is to get implementations. If we don't get implementations, we fail.
… It goes beyond browsers. We need someone to build this into their TV sets
… also the ability to communicate in the language you know is important. The ability to express in symbols, and the ability to translate between symbols, is very new and important

Matthew_Atkinson: Am planning to add the people with a large symbol vocabulary are prevented from communicating with one another
… also planning to add the element level semantics
… like the emphasis on communication. Note that the futuristic inventions in Star Trek involving communication, such as the universal translator and the pocket communicator, have actually been built
… what is the duration?
… is this the same preso for breakout and COGA?

Lionel_Wolberger: Structure the deck as topics to return to in the discussion

Lionel_Wolberger: I propose naming a section, "Empathy Section" to deepen the audiences understanding of the need

janina: Who's not on the web yet and why?
… is it possible that we're making it in such a way that prevents them from being on the web?

Lionel_Wolberger: The curb cut effect. Symbols will be so useful in the future.

LisaSeemanKest: If you are going to everybody, then you may want to speak about mental health crises. Everyone has a time when they function less well
… times of stress
… everyone in the last year had a COGA crisis where they could not focus, could not really do their job

janina: I'm hesitant to add that part, it feels too much.
… the central message: we need implementations of module 1
… symbols
… communication
… mental health is a bit too immature for a prime time message, it's barely ready for "Content Useable"

Matthew_Atkinson: I will continue to update.
… is there a new TPAC 2021 theme?

<LisaSeemanKest> i need to drop off
