<LisaSeemanKest> clear agenda

<scribe> scribe: JF

LS: let's look at December calendar

JS: APA and other TF's - looking at calendars. Traditionally W3C goes quiet at end of year

and due to COVID may be even quieter this yera

LS suggest we don't meet w/o Dec. 21 and 28 - but maybe 28th and 4th of jan?

<LisaSeemanKest> a: 21-28

<LisaSeemanKest> b28 - 4 off

[discussion]

<janina> https://www.w3.org/wiki/Holidays

CL: no pref

BG: ditto - will be around all 3 weeks

RESOLUTION: will not meet on Dec. 21st or 28th

<LisaSeemanKest> https://github.com/w3c/personalization-semantics/wiki/actions

go over action https://github.com/w3c/personalization-semantics/wiki/actions

LS: started assigning people to action items
... asking Roy about BCI patent policy issues

<Roy> https://www.w3.org/Consortium/Patent-Policy-20200915/

Roy: still being discussed - patent policy at W3C is complex

JS: BCI seemed willing to be cooperative with us as well

JF: +1 to Janina's recollection

Roy: Wendy tried to look into this - how to ask about royalty free contributions to W3C

JS: perhaps put Wendy directly in touch with the right person at BCI

[general agreement]

LS: which Wendy

Roy: send the email to Lisa, I will follow up with Wendy Selzer

<janina> APA Chairs <group-apa-chairs@w3.org>

LS: will send to everyone after the call

<LisaSeemanKest> todo list https://github.com/w3c/personalization-semantics/wiki/actions

JS: need to finish email to Alice
... will probably not hit CR in December - running out of time

will likely be in January

<scribe> ACTION: Janina to send out email this week to Alice

<trackbot> Created ACTION-74 - Send out email this week to alice [on Janina Sajka - due 2020-12-14].

LS: next item is a discussion piece - consider removing sensory distractions

what happens before CR, and what happens after CR?

JS: we have a built-in problem (entering into CR using data-dash) - need to go to WHAT WG and request reerved prefix

LS: we need to go through all remaining open issues - clean them all up

<LisaSeemanKest> it adds the why element of the pourse.

<LisaSeemanKest> It makes the purpose of the element machine readable.

<LisaSeemanKest> For symbols, it makes the purpose of the symbol machine readable.

Definition of semantyics: the branch of linguistics and logic concerned with meaning. There are a number of branches and subbranches of semantics, including formal semantics, which studies the logical aspects of meaning, such as sense, reference, implication, and logical form, lexical semantics, which studies word meanings and word relations, and conceptual semantics, which studies the cognitive structure of meaning.

<LisaSeemanKest> We agree that authors are (hopefully) used to the idea that semantics

<LisaSeemanKest> relate to the purpose (role) of an element, or its other characteristics

<LisaSeemanKest> (name, state, etc.).

<LisaSeemanKest> We think our specification is part of that. For example, the purpose of

<LisaSeemanKest> this field is to get your email address, or the purpose of a link is to

<LisaSeemanKest> take you to the contact us Page.

LS: there seems to be some overlap with prefers reduced motion CSS media query

<becky> https://github.com/w3c/csswg-drafts/issues/5594#issuecomment-739893358

+1 - distracting content doesn't need to be "Moving" content
