The GeoKnow XSLT

GeoKnow deliverable 2.7.1 describes set of XSLTs for INSPIRE to RDF, which are also available.

XSLTs do a basic job, transformation is basic and only uses/converts what is in the INSPIRE data

i.e. doesn't really use the Linked part of Linked Data (not a criticism, just a practical reality)

http://geodata.gov.gr/sparql/ is online but seems to have a problem, can't get hold of owners.

So working entirely from what the XSLT tells me.

The GeoKnow XSLT (1/4)

• URI construction seems as good as any. Possibly could be better but for now it's OK.
• Inspire Id is not a URI and AIUI has its own metadata although this is not included in the XSLT. Consider therefore using the (ISA programme/W3C) ADMS Identifier class that is designed to cover this situation. (NB Andrea Perego suggests using this for alternative Inspire Id - a point of discussion in LOCADD CG)
• geo:hasGeometry creates URI to geometry, uses GeoSPARQL – OK, let's do that (could use locn as alternative). Nice XSLT to create WKT.

The GeoKnow XSLT (2/4)

• LegalFoundationDocument is just a string - should be a URL but you need to know the URL to do that (ideally these would be European Legislation Identifiers). Matching class in ISA Programme Core Public Service Vocabulary And work on digitising legislation by people like Monica Palmirani might have more to say about that.
• LegalFoundationDate currently comes out as a string, which is correct but it needs a datatype adding (xsd:date) - and that should be obtainable from the LegalFoundationDocument anyway (modulo differences between date of legislation, date it came into force etc.)

The GeoKnow XSLT (3/4)

• siteDesignation rendered as a URI which makes sense as this should be a SKOS Concept. Also adds:
  • designationScheme
  • designation
  • percentageUnderDesignation

  We should use the URIs defined in the INSPIRE Registry. See, for example, Natura2000 Designations. That takes care of the designation scheme and designation, but not the percentage under designation.

The GeoKnow XSLT (4/4)

• siteName is rendered as a URI. Taking the ISA programme Core Location Voc notes as evidence, it should be a string. Of course there can be multiple Geographic Names, e.g.
  • Aθnνa (the Greek endonym written in the Greek script)
  • Athína (the standard Romanisation of the endonym)
  • Athens (the English language exonym)
  But it shouldn't be a URI
