In this discussion, I present pump.io, a simple, efficient
    standards-based social stream server. The API daemon uses the
    Activity Streams JSON standard and a simple RESTful API to provide
    most of the functionality needed for social features. It can be used
    for mobile apps, as a social add-on to otherwise asocial programs,
    or as the core of a primarily social application. With Webfinger and
    dynamic OAuth client registration, the server also provides a simple
    but featureful social federation system.
