Makoto Murata JEPA Position paper I hope that this workshop help to identify differences of priorities in the e-book world and the web world. A notable example is vertical writing. It is considered as a must for e-book in Japan, while it is not the case for the web even in Japan. Awareness of the differences help both W3C and IDPF to do the right thing for the world, which obviously needs both e-book and the web or might not even bother to distinguish the two. In which areas, do such differences of priorities exist? Typography is obvious, and I hope that this workshop can provide some advice about differences of typographical requirements to W3C and IDPF working groups. I can also envisage that other areas will become also important. I hope to give an overview of the (non-)use of W3C technologies in a new working group of IDPF, namely Advanced/Hybrid Layouts Working Groups. AHL uses media fragments and SVG, but it also introduces its own mechanism for negotiation and multi- dimensional links. Regards, Makoto
