Position Paper for W3C Workshop Participant Sakamoto, Makoto -- Senior Manager, Nexgen Vehicle Office Fujitsu Ltd. makoto@jp.fujitsu.com Fujitsu created an organization "next-generation vehicle office", which promotes Fujitsu's "Vehicle ICT" vision which help automotive industry convert itself into "personal mobility provider". Perspective According to practice for innovation of matured industries, future automobile industry will become "personal mobility provider". Providing mobility instead of "selling cars" leads 3 changes: - Majority of cars will be commoditized. - Context-based in-vehicle informatics increase its importance. - Advanced driver assistance and kinds of autonomous control will be introduced. W3C's Open Web Platform is ideal for these changes because: - It is fully standardized-and-open information platform - Continuously-improving presentation technology - Network-ready and have multi-domain APIs W3C's Open Web Platform will take a center roll in the car informatics. Our viewpoint Main topic: Creating markets for automotive applications Related sub-topics: Browser-based Applications Security, Privacy and Trust We point out the need of In-vehicle computing (IVC) resource connecting all of in-vehicle ECUs and external network. IVC sits between group of ECUs and cloud computing platform to provide advanced driver assistance and kinds of autonomous control using context-based computing of multi-domain data including vehicle conditions, traffic and map info, and driver's behavior. We are interested in framework to realize IVC run applications created by anyone avoiding liability problem. Application delivery platform and in-vehicle runtime environment must coordinately realize this framework.
