Status of WCAG2ICT document and M376

The editors are reviewing the next draft and it will go out to the group to review on Friday.

The WCAG working group needs to approve it before it goes out for public review.

M376 is available for viewing but not for additional comment yet. It is undergoing approval next week prior to entering the formal voting process for approval - a lengthy process.

In terms of our WCAG2ICT work, the terms in M376 have already been aligned with what we've agreed upon so far.

<BBailey> @MaryJo, I thought I heard Mike say there was some misalignment with our most recent work.

<Zakim> Bruce_Bailey, you wanted to ask if version number and date are stable?

A link to the WCAG2ICT document is in the M376 technical report.

There could some areas in M376 - anything that has changed in the last week or so - that have not been aligned with the WCAG2ICT work.

The meeting on Wednesday 5 December is to approve moving M376 into the formal review/voting process.

Survey on glossary terms

<Andi> https://www.w3.org/2002/09/wbs/55145/NOV152012/results

Definition of 'assistive technology' - https://www.w3.org/2002/09/wbs/55145/NOV152012/results#xq1

Need to clarify the difference between what is a built-in assistive technology feature vs. an installable AT - especially for closed products.

<korn> Mike, go to https://sites.google.com/site/wcag2ict/home/introduction-to-wcag2ict-application-note and scan down to "Closed Functionality"

For built-in AT, some of the information could be obtained through proprietary methods rather than through accessibility services. The platform may even be closed so that a 3rd party AT is not allowed.

<Mike_P> +1

<Andi> "hardware or software [THAT CAN BE] added to, connected to, or incorporated within, a system that increases accessibility for an individual"

RESOLUTION: Accept the definition for assistive technology as updated in the meeting.

Definition of 'changes of context' - https://www.w3.org/2002/09/wbs/55145/NOV152012/results#xq2

Proposal made to substitute this term in 3.2.1 and 3.2.2 instead of including this definition.

<korn> https://sites.google.com/site/wcag2ict/home/3-understandable/32-make-web-pages-appear-and-operate-in-predictable-ways/322-on-input

<Andi> ACTION: Peter to work with Mike on interpretation of "change of context" for software for 3.2.1 and 3.2.2 [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2012/11/27-wcag2ict-minutes.html#action01]

<trackbot> Created ACTION-79 - Work with Mike on interpretation of "change of context" for software for 3.2.1 and 3.2.2 [on Peter Korn - due 2012-12-04].

Definition of 'programmatically determined' - https://www.w3.org/2002/09/wbs/55145/NOV152012/results#xq3

There are issues with this term for software. We could stay with the WCAG definition for documents.

The problem is that we can't change the definition. However this definition uses the term 'user agent' which isn't meaningful for software.

We need to at least document that this term needs to be interpreted differently for software.

<Andi> ACTION: Mike to work with Peter to develop guidance text for "programmatically determined" for software [recorded in http://www.w3.org/2012/11/27-wcag2ict-minutes.html#action02]

<trackbot> Created ACTION-80 - Work with Peter to develop guidance text for "programmatically determined" for software [on Mike Pluke - due 2012-12-04].

Definition of 'programmatically set' - https://www.w3.org/2002/09/wbs/55145/NOV152012/results#xq4

<korn> +1

Proposal made to change 'user agent' with 'other software'.

<Andi> applies replacing "user agent" with "other software"

RESOLUTION: Accept the definition of 'programmatically set' using the word replacement agreed to in the meeting.

Definition of 'viewport' - https://www.w3.org/2002/09/wbs/55145/NOV152012/results#xq5

This definition seems to work even beyond the visual concept - in a non-visual context.

<BBailey> My mistake in survey, I did not think WCAG included the term viewport.

The term 'viewport' only exists in the definition of the term 'changes of context'.

As 'viewport' is defined, it also seems to work for software.

<Andi> Applies as written to documents. Task force is still working to determine applicability to software.

<Andi> close action-24

<trackbot> ACTION-24 Work Loïc, Mike, David, Andi to work on definition of "interaction context" closed

RESOLUTION: Accept definition of 'viewport' as written for documents.
