- ISSUE-35 (New attribute: ubi)<http://www.w3.org/International/track/issues/35> I had left http://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/show_bug.cgi?id=10807 open only because I was not 100% sure that it was a good idea that the <output> element was also defined to have isolation by default. But I never did make up my mind that it was a bad idea, so I have no intention to make a Last Call about it. Just forget about this.
- 15:27:29 [aphillip]
- aharon: need for bidi isolatoin. fixed by <bdi>
- 15:27:53 [aphillip]
- ... did not close this bug because html5 made one of the new elements (output) isolated by default
- 15:28:03 [aphillip]
- ... not sure if that's the right choice
- 15:28:34 [aphillip]
- richard: looked at a couple of days ago and not sure if it still says that
- 15:28:41 [aphillip]
- aharon: it's the default stylesheet
- 15:28:46 [aphillip]
- ... that would say that
- 15:28:52 [aphillip]
- ... not the spec itself so much
- 15:29:31 [r12a]
- 10.3.5 Bidirectional text
- 15:29:52 [r12a]
- bdi, output, [dir=auto] { unicode-bidi: isolate; } /* case-insensitive */
- 15:31:56 [aphillip]
- okay to close
- 15:32:04 [aphillip]
- ISSUE-36 (New dir attribute value: auto, and a new attribute: autodirmethod)<http://www.w3.org/International/track/issues/36> Both http://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/show_bug.cgi?id=10808 and http://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/show_bug.cgi?id=11734 were fixed and are closed. The issue should be closed.

- ISSUE-43 (Block-display elements should act as UBA paragraph breaks)<http://www.w3.org/International/track/issues/43> http://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/show_bug.cgi?id=11829* is important and is still awaiting action by the editor.*
- 15:33:01 [aphillip]
- aharon: issue is now wider
- 15:33:04 [aphillip]
- bug is 11829
- 15:33:31 [aphillip]
- aharon: default stylesheet is non-normative and not very descriptive
- 15:33:39 [aphillip]
- ... and doesn't tell you what is supposed to be happening
- 15:33:45 [aphillip]
- ... in words
- 15:33:55 [aphillip]
- ... and HTML5 doesn't described

- s/described/describe Unicode Bidirectional Algorithm/
- 15:34:16 [aphillip]
- ... how to apply it
- 15:34:19 [aphillip]
- ... etc.
- 15:34:30 [aphillip]
- aharon: CSS spec (writing-mode)
- 15:34:35 [aphillip]
- ... does describe this
- 15:34:41 [Zakim]
- +??P1
- 15:34:52 [kojiishi]
- zakim, ??p1 is me
- 15:34:52 [Zakim]
- +kojiishi; got it
- 15:34:59 [aphillip]
- ... and default stylesheets invoke this
- 15:35:41 [aphillip]
- aharon: so default stylesheet does define how UBA works in a non-normative and non-declarative way
- 15:35:51 [aphillip]
- ... so can't tell what the behaviors should be
- 15:36:06 [aphillip]
- ... and this was accepted by editor
- 15:36:23 [aphillip]
- ... but not present in document
- 15:36:42 [aphillip]
- ... I did provide what the text might be
- 15:36:48 [aphillip]
- ... and pinged
- 15:38:37 [aphillip]
- addison: html5 is kind of hand-wavy about bidi
- 15:38:53 [aphillip]
- ... also, there is a reason not to have stylesheet be normative
- 15:40:11 [aphillip]
- addison: should have a hard reference in html5
- 15:40:21 [aphillip]
- richard: could have two stylesheets: one normative and one informative
- 15:41:07 [aphillip]
- aharon: add section that says how bidi works in absense of css

- Issue 52
- 15:55:29 [r12a]
- 15:55:40 [r12a]
- situation is changing right now
- 15:55:49 [r12a]
- since email sent
- 15:56:02 [r12a]
- by default lists in html5 behave without interop between browsers
- 15:56:16 [r12a]
- some list items are in one direction, others in another direction
- 15:56:23 [r12a]
- at heart its a css issue
- 15:57:06 [r12a]
- this year the css3 lists module was worked on in earnest - the way it is being addressed is far from settled - keeps changing names and approaches
- 15:57:29 [r12a]
- in the end it should be fine on the css side, but css3 tries to be very backwards compatible
- 15:57:54 [r12a]
- it's not clear yet whether they will decide to make the css default to be the current browser behaviour or the new behaviour
- 15:58:09 [r12a]
- not that they like the old behaviour, it's a question of interoperability
- 15:58:47 [r12a]
- what they want to happen if for the html5 spec to say the real desireable default in hte default stylesheet
- 15:59:19 [r12a]
- unfortunately they still haven't decided on the syntax or whether it will be necessary to say it in the stylesheet
- 15:59:25 [r12a]
- so it's not clear how to proceed
- 15:59:45 [r12a]
- the editor is constantly modifying the proposal, never mind finish review
- 16:00:21 [r12a]
- hope is to convince them to commit to new behaviour for default
- 16:00:35 [r12a]
- aharon will be busy lobyying for that over coming days
- 16:00:39 [r12a]
- also
- 16:00:54 [r12a]
- default text-align is start
- 16:01:46 [r12a]
- aharon suggested that the html5 default stylesheet should say that the default text align for li should be match-parent (already defined) - leads to uniform alignment
- 16:02:17 [r12a]
- dependent othe the soutions proposed this is either something absolutely necessary or just ok
- 16:02:29 [r12a]
- hopefully it will work out that its not important
- 16:02:40 [r12a]
- so not clear whether to ask that of the html5 editor yet
- 16:04:38 [r12a]
- so, depending on particulars of work on css lists may need some defaults set, but its not yet clear what
- 16:04:54 [r12a]
- richard: so if all becomes clear before end of LC, we should push for that
- 16:05:36 [r12a]
- otherwise we should lodge a flag that this is an issue still being worked on and that the spec should take into account the results of the discussion when they become available

- 16:07:12 [r12a]
