A schema (with a small 's') describes the structure of an XML document. Some formats in which people write schemas include DTDs (Document Type Defintions), the W3C's XML Schema (with a capital 'S'), and RelaxNG. The ITS Best Practises document will contain examples in each of these formats of how to implement the ITS tagset.
