Working group of the SysML 1.2 Revision Task Force (RTF)
W3C Semantic Sensor Network Incubator Group
This ontology is partially based on the QUDV conceptual model for Quantities, Units, Dimensions, Values (QUDV) to define systems of units and quantities for use in system models proposed by a working group of the SysML 1.2 Revision Task Force (RTF), working in close coordination with the OMG MARTE specification group. The QUDV model is described in OMG SysMLTM, Version 1.2 Appendix C.4 Model Library for Quantity Kinds and Units http://ontolog.cim3.net/file/resource/reference/UoM_Ontology_Standard/available-UoM-references/QUDV-Annex-C4-C5--OMG-SysML-v1-2_Oct-2009.pdf
Note: the SYSML-QUDV definitions are flagged with a rdfs:seeAlso annotation equal to with http://www.omgsysml.org/qudv.
Additional work on this ontology has been done to complete the Agriculture Meteorology example of the ontology developed by the W3C Semantic Sensor Networks incubator group (SSN-XG).
For more information on the group's activities see: http://www.w3.org/2005/Incubator/ssn/ .
Please report any errors to the Semantic Sensor Network Incubator Activity via the public W3C list public-xg-ssn@w3.org or alternatively, to the QUDV mailing list: http://www.omg.org/publicarchives/qudv/

rotational speed
rotational speed is a property that is the rate of rotation of a material around an axis.
GELLISH
critical speed
critical speed is a rotational speed that occurs when the frequency of a periodic forcing phenomenon applied to a rotor-bearing support system corresponds to a natural frequency at that system which could cause resonance.
GELLISH
rated rotational speed
rated rotational speed is a rotational speed for which the equipment is designed to operate under specified, rated conditions.
GELLISH
trip speed
trip speed is a rotational speed at which an item stops operating or is intended to stop operating. Typically caused by protection control.

maximum rotational speed
maximum rotational speed is a rotational speed that is maximum possible or allowed or obtained.
GELLISH
full load speed
full load speed is a rotational speed that occurs when fully loaded.
GELLISH
slip
slip is a rotational speed that is the difference between the synchronous speed and the actual speed of a rotor relative to the synchronous speed.
GELLISH
synchronous speed
synchronous speed is a rotational speed that results from the frequency of the system to which the machine is connected and either the number of poles or the number of projections in the machine.
GELLISH
critical build-up speed
critical build-up speed is a rotational speed that is the lowest speed at which the machine voltage builds up under specified conditions.
GELLISH
critical torsional speed
critical torsional speed is a rotational speed at which the amplitudes of the vibrations of a machine rotor due to shaft torsional vibration reach their maximum values.
GELLISH
critical whirling speed

rotational speed at maximum torque is a rotational speed that occurs when the delivered torque is maximal.
GELLISH
minimum rotational speed
minimum rotational speed is a rotational speed that is minimally occurring or allowed or possible to occur.
GELLISH
breakaway speed
breakaway speed is a rotational speed where a significant increase in acceleration occurs. Typically where the rotational speed of a rotor of a turbine really takes off.

acceleration due to gravity
acceleration due to gravity is an acceleration at the start of the free fall of a material when subject to the attraction of the earth at the earth surface. It is an acceleration excluding the effect of any resistance, such as due to movement through air. It varies a bit over the earth surface. A standardised value has been defined of g = 9.80665 m/s2.

electric resistance
electric resistance is a property that is a barrier which limits an electrical current resulting from a given difference in potential between two points in a material. It can be determined as the quotient of the voltage by the current.
GELLISH
impedance
impedance is a property that is an apparent opposition to a flow of alternating current or any other varying current at a particular frequency. It is a combination of resistance R and reactance X. It takes into account a possible phase offset. The practical difference between impedance and resistance is that impedance changes as a function of frequency.
ISO 31 / IEC 50-131-01-25
modulus of impedance
modulus of impedance is a scalar property that is equal to the quotient of the r.m.s. value of the voltage by the r.m.s. value of the current of a 2-terminal circuit. Correlated with … as |Z| = root (R2 + X2).
ISO 31-5:1992(E) and IEC 50-131-01-24
reactance
reactance is a property that is the imaginary part of a complex impedance. Typically of an a.c. circuit due to capacitance and inductance.

resistivity
resistivity is a property that is an opposition against the flow of electric current in a material. A low resistivity indicates a material that readily allows the movement of electrons. The SI unit for electrical resistivity is the ohm metre. Resistance in ohms is equal to the resistivity of the material multiplied by the cross sectional area of the material divided by the length of the material.
