OWEA Discussion with Jeff Jaffe

Jeff is in first 100 days at W3C.  He is researching the strengths and opportunities for growth for the W3C. Jeff is learning a lot.  W3C needs to be crisp in deciding what it is focused on doing and how it will achieve these goals.  Reference to Dr. Uma Ganesh, CEO Global Talent Track www.gttconnect.com

Jeff: We have implemented 5 Task Forces, looking at organizational vision of W3C ... trying to see how OWEA fits within this strategic vision, in terms of education and outreach for example ...so we extended the charter of OWEA to see how the work develops and see what questions arise Jeff: we don't see this decision as binary ... there are several options that we can explore ... which is why I didn't want to answer the question without knowing what we want to do

Glenda shared that OWEA is applying for the Mozilla/Shuttleworth Fellowship http://www.mozilla.org/grants/education-fellowship.html Chris Mills is working on the OWEA proposal to the Shuttleworth Fellowship

gsims: Key discussion points for OWEA/W3C (to be answered as W3C establishes strategic plans)

  1.  OWEA's relationship to other work
  2. Quality control
  3. Scope of Materials
  4. Participation model
  5. Sustainability
