LA RED/ UNDP-GRIP DesInventar
Summary	DesInventar is a free, open source Disaster Information System which allows users to store, query and analyze post-disaster Damage and Loss Assessments and user-defined emergency assessment surveys
Type / Scope / Phase	DesInventar is typically used during the Humanitarian, Early Recovery and Reconstruction phases, although it is also conceived to be used as a historical disaster damage/loss information system useful in Risk Assessments and in general as a tool in Risk Reduction processes.
Application Architecture / License	DesInventar is a Java/JSP web application, which can also be deployed as desktop application / Free and Open Source software licensed under an Apache 2 type license.
Project Goals	DesInventar provides simple and effective tools for Disaster Damage and Needs Assesments survey data collection Provides wide accessibility, protection and built-in analysis tools, including statistical, tabular, graphical and spatial analysis tools. It allows the creation of multi-hazard, multiple-disaster, historically dissagregated disaster information databases for use in Risk Assessments and Risk Reduction, essential also in Recovery and Reconstruction phases for 'building back better'.

UN GDACS Virtual OSOCC
Summary	The Virtual On Site Operations Coordination Center is part of the Global Disaster Alert and Coordination System (GDACS). GDACS provides both a disaster alerting component (including an overview of likely humanitarian impact) and a disaster coordination component (Virtual OSOCC). GDACS is based mostly on (Geo)RSS feeds to exchange information feeds between components. Virtual OSOCC is a closed forum for professional disaster managers to exchange information on planned and past decisions and response. Virtual OSOCC is actively used by over 7000 users in most international disasters.
Type / Scope / Phase	The Virtual OSOCC aims at sharing information among international first responders in the first 72h of sudden onset disasters. Typically, this includes information on the situation, impact (casualties and damage), visa arrangements and travel restrictions, lists of teams and deployment status and rapid satellite based damage maps.
Application Architecture / License	Virtual OSOCC is a web portal developed internally by UN staff.
Project Goals	Disaster coordination - the main purpose of the Virtual OSOCC is to facilitate decision-making for international response to major disasters though real-time information exchange by all actors of the international disaster response community. E-mail and sms alerts - All Virtual OSOCC users have the opportunity to create e-mail and sms messages that are sent automatically to subscribers to inform about critical situation updates during disaster response operations. Mobilisation - through the Virtual OSOCC the United Nations Assessment and Coordination Team (UNDAC) can be mobilised effectively through on-line workflow procedures including sms and e-mail. Training and meetings - the Virtual OSOCC facilitates management of UNDAC, INSARAG and UN-CMCoord training, meetings and workshops through e-mail notification, on-line participant registration and discussion of background material. Discussion forum - the Virtual OSOCC provides its users with a discussion forum for any area of interest, including information exchange on best practice and lessons-learned after disaster response operations. Photo library - the Virtual OSOCC includes a photo library where users can share disaster and other related photos as documentation or presentation material or souvenir of a joint mission.

Project Goals	The WORKPAD project will focus in providing a software and communication infrastructure supporting operators during an emergency. The objective of the WORKPAD project is to investigate how to create communities of Public Safety Systems (PSSs), and how to enable mobile teams to exploit such back-end PSSs through the interplay of MANET technologies, process management and geo-collaboration. In order to support such a complex scenario, from the provision of data & knowledge & content to front-end teams to their process executions, different research issues will be addressed: A 2-level peer-to-peer architecture, including both the back-end peers and the front-end teams. Novel techniques for P2P data & knowledge & content integration, to be exploited on the back-end. P2P information integration systems don't rely on a single global view (ontology), but use mappings, dynamically established between peers, to collect and merge data from the various sources when answering user queries. Adaptive process management, by exploting context-awareness and process mining, in order to manage coordination of team members. Geo-referenced information managment. Solutions around emergency communications, wireless communications and robust links (i.e., connecting front-end and back-end networks), e.g., satellite-based, TETRA-based, etc., as they are key elements in helping emergency services respond in extreme situations. Solutions for allowing devices of a team to communicate without relying on any infrastructure (which in general is not available after disasters), through the use of the MANETs, and to share reliable communication channels in order to coordinate among different teams.
