Decision Meeting #5 Goal & Agenda

Background

The dial-in information for this week's meeting is here. The Decision Incubator Activity is intended to explore the use cases and design of a Decision Representation format (e.g. in XML, RDF, OWL…) available on the wiki along with its use by participants in testbed settings for experiments and exercises. Each meeting will be an opportunity to summarize progress & contributions to the wiki, review next steps and action items, and to review the current representation format.

Regarding status, we reviewed the use cases at the last meeting and determined that we had a sufficient set to begin modeling. Don will be focusing on the Situational Awareness example, Eva will begin on the Open Linked Data use case, and Jeff will continue on his Information Flow use case. A few issues faced in reusing the patterns was discussed and the team agreed to begin the modeling efforts in earnest.

Summary and Action Items from the Last Meeting

At the last meeting (see minutes), Jeff reviewed the significant progress made to date, including the wiki documentation, the education on eXtreme Design methodology, downloading and exploring the Neon Toolkit and XD plugin, and the development of a few key use cases. The suggestion was made by Eva to begin modeling and each of us come to the next meeting with the suggestion of which patterns to reuse for our chosen use cases. The concept of a core "event" was discussed and Don recommended we consider how this is handled in managed program languages. The importance of understanding the vocabularies was noted and Eva will begin to look at those and she will post something on the wiki about this to help educate us.

The core Action Items were to begin modeling on our chosen use cases and report on sample patterns intended to be reused at the next meeting.

Goal for this Meeting

At this sixth meeting of the Decision Incubator, the goal is to report progress on modeling efforts on our chosen use cases, including any recommended patterns. Any experiences, issues or lessons learned will be important to note. Don may be available to summarize the situation reporting work he is engaged in which is relevant to the Situational Awareness use case.

Agenda

The following agenda items will be discussed at the next meeting. The topic, time, summary and discussion leader are provided for each agenda item.

(1) Review of Status, Goals & Agenda Overview (5 min, Jeff)

Initial modeling has begun with the transition pattern and practical experience is being gained on use of Neon with the eXtreme Design plugin and the ontology design patterns. The near-term goal is to build on this experience to model additional decision components.

(2) Review Progress on Chosen Use Cases & Core Components (10 min each, Jeff, Don, Eva if available)

We'll take a quick look at the progress and status of our modeling efforts for the selected use cases and discuss any issues, challenges or opportunities. Any recommended patterns will be noted and discussed.

(3) Lessons Learned from Sitrep Work Relevant for Emergency Management (10 minutes, Don)

Significant headway on an emerging situation reporting standard is underway at OASIS for emergency management. Don McGarry is a member of that effort and Don will mention any relevant lessons learned which may impact our Situational Awareness use case.
