from xmlsec joint discussion in Cannes today:

upon decompressing an EXI document, element order is preserved but attribute order is not (as specified in XML Infoset). nevertheless it is possible to reapply the original (prior-to-EXI) canonicalization upon recreation of the XML document from EXI. perhaps EXI should add a switch to preserve canonicalization upon decompression. this would seem to be necessary in order to preserve the correctness of any embedded digital signature.

John and Jaako correctly point out that this is unnecessary since a digitally signed document does not necessarily have to itself be canonicalized.

canonicalization is again performed on the document as part of verifying the signature.

so this action is not needed.
