OWL (Web Ontology Language)

  • OWL refines the usage of RDF by:
    • defining the terminology used in a specific context (ontologies)
    • imposing constraints on properties
      • e.g., cardinality constraints
    • characterizing the logical characteristics of properties
      • e.g., transitivity, functionality
    • defining the equivalence of terms across ontologies
    • etc.
  • (to be precise: these are done by RDFS+OWL)
