1. Tips on Designing - Examples

Tips on Designing for Web Accessibility

Following discussion in 3 July EOWG Meeting there have been considerable changes to the examples and how they are presented. Changes include:

  • Changed backgrounds to grey
  • Got rid of button effect
  • Used more contextual text for contrast and interactive elements examples
  • Removed pie chart and provided two suggested alternatives (I would propose keeping both)
  • Changed how the interactive elements example is presented (based on input from Shadi)
  • Removed ‘bad’ labelling example
  • Added in form instructions into form examples
  • Tightened up styling on form examples

Please review the changes and raise any comments in GithHub (or, if you're not comfortable with GitHub, you can put them in the comments here).

How to Meet WCAG 2.0 – Mockup

(Note: There might be some rendering issues in Chrome, especially the left sidebar is not playing along very well.)

After last week’s meeting, some meassures were taken to advance the new mockup. The following questions detail the changes and ask you for your opinion so we can move the project forward even more.

Responder Quickref – Intro
Shawn Lawton Henry Looking good!
Kevin White
Brent Bakken
Sharron Rush
Vicki Menezes Miller
Lydia Harkey Yes, I noticed that the left sidebar was too wide when using Chrome. Tested the page on IE and it was better.

Would there be an option to have the left navigation section be separate from the main content so that it is always visible regardless of the filter or topic chosen?

4. Quickref – Column layout

In the 3 July EOWG Meeting, a mockup with only one column on the left and tabs to toggle between “Contents” and “Filter” was presented.

Rationale: During the user feedback sessions in Utrecht, it was noticed that there were two basic types of users:

  • Users that expected the filter mechanism (and found it basically wherever it was put.
  • Users that didn’t expect the filter mechanism (and ignored it).

To help users find the filter more easily, we have combined the two columns („Overview“ and „Customize“) into one column with tabbed navigation on the top. The left column was instantly recognized by all participants and by having “Filter” in close proximity they should be discovered more easily.
