Adobe Systems Incorporated Steve Zilles and Larry Masinter Adobe Systems is a leader in the production of tools for designers and developers to create compelling content. As Network Publishing encompasses not just distribution of content, but provision of services and experiences, we believe it is important to continue the integration of publishing and inter-organizational collaboration. In addition, the processes for document, image and creative content production are distributed, and Adobe is creating an expanding set of server-side capabilities; these require standardized mechanisms for service integration. The networking community has significant experience and investment in the infrastructure for the development, discovery and communication between elements of distributed applications. We are concerned that the W3C not embark on a new effort to solve problems that have already been well explored, without a serious review of the existing mechanisms for resource and service discovery, capability exchange and system management. Identifying the essential qualities that distinguish "web services" from "Internet services" would seem like an important task for this workshop.
