Fujitsu Position Paper for Workshop on Web services Kazunori Iwasa Senior Engineer of Industry Relations, Fujitsu Software Corporation 3055 Orchard Drive, San Jose, CA 95134-2022 e-mail: iwasa@fs.fujitsu.com 1. Background Our purpose of the activities in the area of messaging protocol standardization is to establish interoperable and reliable messaging protocol as an open standard. I believe W3C XML Protocol Activity is a good standardization work of messaging protocol. Fujitsu is one of active companies in the area of messaging protocol standardization. We have submitted Notification Service specification[1] and its extensional function[2] to OMG with other companies and these specifications were adopted by OMG. We are an active member of ebXML Transport, Routing and Packaging Working Group. 2. Our Interest 1) Reliability Function of W3C XML Protocol The XML Protocol Requirement working draft defines reliability function as one of the "Simplicity and Stability" requirements. However the W3C XML Protocol Activity will not develop the specification of the reliability function. Fujitsu has experience to contribute in this area. We proposed reliability function specification[3] of the ebXML Messaging Service to ebXML Transport, Routing and Packaging Working Group and it was accepted. There is Fujitsu's potential contribution in the area of consistency of the reliability function between W3C XML Protocol and ebXML Message Service. 2) Convergence of ebXML Message Service and SOAP The ebXML Message Service has similar functions and scope with SOAP. So ebXML TR&P Working Group has begun to integrate SOAP into ebXML Message Service. We believe this is a right direction for e-business market. And there is some discussion in W3C XML Protocol WG also, how to handle ebXML in the XMLP.
