The documentation is now available in ASCII. From yuri@sq.sq.com Thu Jun 23 14:57:52 1994 Article: 19808 of comp.infosystems.www From: yuri@sq.sq.com (Yuri Rubinsky) Subject: ANNOUNCE: HoTMetaL v1.0b for MS-Windows and Sparc Motif Followup-To: hotmetal@sq.com Summary: WYSIWYG HTML Editor available on Windows; new version for Motif Organization: SoftQuad Inc., Toronto, Canada Date: Wed, 22 Jun 94 13:11:00 GMT-1:00 SoftQuad HoTMetaL v1.0b is now available for pickup using anonymous ftp. Changes from previous release: * Microsoft Windows now supported. * If a document doesn't open with the HTML DTD, HoTMetaL automatically tries a looser, `legacy' DTD. There is no longer any need to send away for a `loose' rules file. * Support for Entities for ISO Latin 1 (and other) character sets now included. * Backspace now deletes entities and elements as well as normal text. At present, this is the location of the binaries for both the Sun Motif and Windows versions. We will post the longer list as other sites pick it up. IF YOU RUN A SITE THAT IS MIRRORING HOTMETAL, please send mail to hotmetal@sq.com so we can let others know about your site. For now: ftp.ncsa.uiuc.edu:/Mosaic/contrib/SoftQuad/hotmetal NOTE that there is a separate subdirectory for each of the Sparc-Motif and MS-Windows versions. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Yuri Rubinsky +1 416 239-4801 SoftQuad Inc. uucp: {uunet, utzoo}!sq!yuri Suite 810 56 Aberfoyle Crescent Internet: yuri@sq.com Toronto, Ontario, Canada M8X 2W4 Fax: +1 416 239-7105 Please address follow-up mail to hotmetal@sq.com From hotmetal@sq.com Thu Jun 2 11:41:03 1994 Article: 18122 of comp.infosystems.www From: ian@sq.sq.com (Ian Darwin) Subject: SoftQuad announces WYSIWYG HTML Editor available for FTP Summary: HTML editing now available. Organization: SoftQuad Inc., Toronto, Canada Date: Thu, 2 Jun 94 04:07:14 GMT-1:00 SoftQuad is releasing two WWW/HTML editors: SoftQuad HoTMetaL - freely available today by FTP - our gift to the WWW community. SoftQuad HoTMetaL Pro - available this month for purchase. There is also (in conjunction with Avalanche Development Company) a HoTMetaL add-on for conversion from popular desktop word processing packages like Microsoft Word and WordPerfect into HTML. HoTMetaL simplifies HTML authoring with pick lists for the markup codes and cut-and-paste for the hypertext links. It includes the following HTML-specific features: knowledge of the HTML DTD and validation of documents; viewing of images; a Preview facility for launching Mosaic and other Web browsers; the ability to copy and paste hypertext links (Universal Resource Locators -- URLs) into the document; and a Publish feature that automatically changes hypertext links from local file references to global URLs. SoftQuad HoTMetaL is available from many of the same Internet sites and electronic bulletin boards as Mosaic, including NCSA, where the URL is: ftp://ftp.ncsa.uiuc.edu/Mosaic/contrib/SoftQuad/sqhotmetal-1.0.tar.gz (and see below for other sites) The first release is for Sun Motif, with a Microsoft Windows version available within a week. Other operating environments will follow. SoftQuad HoTMetaL PRO is a fully supported commercial version with additional functionality like WYSIWYG editing of complex tables and more comprehensive support for authoring, such as user-defined macros and long or short sets of menus. It will be available from SoftQuad and its resellers by the end of June 1994 on Sun Motif and Microsoft Windows for a list price of US$195.00 with a 90 day promotional price of US$149.00. HoTMetaL is named in honor of the mechanical devices which melted lead to make type for printing. Please email inquiries to "hotmetal@sq.com", not to me.
