Minutes

<Susie> Attendees: David, Paolo, Oliver, Tim, Susie, Matthias, EricP

<Susie> Apologies: Alex

<Susie> Tim: How are we doing in terms of reaching our objectives?

<Susie> Tim: Do we still want to focus on these objectives?

<Susie> Tim: What would it take to build an application that uses SWAN and SIOC.

<Susie> Tim: It'd be good to also discuss MyExperiment as David is here.

<Susie> Tim: Start reviewing objectives on the wiki.

<matthias_samwald> http://esw.w3.org/topic/HCLSIG/SWANSIOC

<Susie> Paolo: Close to finishing the integrating SWAN and SIOC.

<Susie> Paolo: Need to work on revising approximately 12 definitions, and then are done.

<Susie> Action: Paolo update 12 definitions.

<Susie> Tim: Pilot a community of communities.

<Susie> Tim: AlzForum plus StemBook exporting in SWANSIOC format into a common triple store, and could then search across the communities.

<Susie> Tim: This is an example.

<Susie> Tim: Really need to do a pilot / proof of concept.

<Susie> Matthias: Sounds like a good idea.

<Susie> Matthias: Could convert biological data sets into SWANSIOC.

<Susie> Matthias: Protein interaction data could be represented as a microblog.

<Susie> Matthias: Microblogs are short sentences or statements.

<ericP> ericP: take existing assertions about e.g. protein interactions, using some other taxonomy to capture those assertions, but frame it out with SIOC data to make it so folks can talk about it as a theory and make assertions about it?

<Susie> Tim: StemBook is implemented, but there isn't currently a SIOC export.

<Susie> Tim: AlzForum are planning to convert to SCF which will take a few months.

<Susie> Tim: Start with a detailed architecture, and have people developing code.

<Susie> Tim: Does this make sense? How do we staff this?

<ericP> Matthias: yes, that sounds good.

<Susie> Tim: We may add one or two people from our side as it may require Drupal coding.

<Susie> Tim: It'd be good to persuade Alex to work on this.

<Susie> Tim: Lets ask Alex after the call or next week.

<Susie> Tim: Another good person would be Stephane Corlosquet (DERI).

<Susie> Tim: Stephane is a well respected Drupal developer.

<Susie> Tim: The work would need to align with Stephane's thesis work.

<Susie> Matthias: I could also help.

<Susie> Tim: That would be great, especially as you have experience with Drupal.

<Susie> Tim: First step would be to change the 3rd objective.

<Susie> Action: Tim to see who can work on modifying the 3rd objective.

<Susie> Tim: EricP do we need to develop an application to make a member submission?

<Susie> EricP: It's not essential to develop an application, but it adds credibility.

<Susie> EricP: It would be required for a recommendation.

<Susie> EricP: I'm in favor of developing the application for the member submission.

<Susie> Tim: It could take a long time to do a recommendation, but a member submission could be faster and gain credibility if it also includes an implementation.

<Susie> EricP: An Interest Group note would hold a little more weight than a member submission as anyone could contribute to it.

<Susie> Tim: Should we publish a quick member submission, and then revise it later to include information on an implementation?

<Susie> EricP: It's a question of how much you want to involve people in the process.

<Susie> Tim: There needs to be documentation to describe what we've done. This would at a minimum to help with the implementation.

<Susie> EricP: Could start with a scratchpad document, and then decide what to do with the document as we go along.

<Susie> Paolo: Doesn't have a strong preference regarding the documents.

<Susie> EricP: Would need to jump through some patent policy hoops to do a recommendation track document.

<Susie> Susie: Preference would be to do an IG Note, as the work is being done within an IG, and it has the highest credibility.

<Susie> Tim: Lets do an IG note then.

<Susie> Tim: Lets use the wiki to collaborate on the document.

<Susie> Paolo: Is it a problem that SIOC was initially written up as a member submission?

<Susie> EricP: It shouldn't cause any conflict.

<Susie> Tim: EricP, Susie have you been involved in IG NOtes before?

<Susie> EricP, Susie: Yes!

<Susie> Tim: Alex and Paolo are the most obvious candidates for editors.

<Susie> EricP: I agree. Would be happy to contribute too if needed.

<Susie> Susie: I agree.

<Susie> Tim: Propose a call next week to get to MyExperiment.

<Susie> Action: Tim to ask Alex, Paolo and Stephane if they'd like to contribute to the implementation.
