http://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/show_bug.cgi?id=7716

           Summary: Clairfy Enumerate operation
           Product: WS-Resource Access
           Version: FPWD
          Platform: PC
        OS/Version: Windows NT
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
         Component: Enumeration
        AssignedTo: public-ws-resource-access-notifications@w3.org
        ReportedBy: asirveda@microsoft.com
         QAContact: public-ws-resource-access-notifications@w3.org

While designing a policy assertion (issue 6403) for WS-Enumeration, we (Doug,
Katy, Paul, Ram and I) bumped into a question. What does it mean to say that a
Web Service indicates the use of WS-Enumeration? We found the following text in
WS-Enumeration [1] to answer the question:

“All data sources MUST support some operation that allows an enumeration to be
started. A data source MAY support the Enumerate operation, or it may provide
some other mechanism for starting an enumeration and receiving an enumeration
context.”

The quoted text is a bit vague though, particularly the phrase 'some
operation'. We think that the quoted text could be clarified and made crisper.
Here is a proposed replacement text:

"Data sources MUST support the Enumerate operation to start an enumeration. A
data source MAY provide other mechanisms for starting an enumeration and
receiving an enumeration context."
