[Bug 13748] New: Consider removing input.selectedOption

http://www.w3.org/Bugs/Public/show_bug.cgi?id=13748

           Summary: Consider removing input.selectedOption
           Product: HTML WG
           Version: unspecified
          Platform: All
        OS/Version: All
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
Component: HTML5 spec (editor: Ian Hickson)
        AssignedTo: ian@hixie.ch
        ReportedBy: mounir.lamouri@gmail.com
         QAContact: public-html-bugzilla@w3.org
                CC: mike@w3.org, public-html-wg-issue-tracking@w3.org,
                    public-html@w3.org

I do not really understand why it has been added to the specifications. I do
not see any use case for that. The only one I found was to check which options
were selected to keep an history and move the most clicked ones at the top of
the list. However, .selectedOption doesn't return the option that has been
really selected but the first option with a matching value. Though, even that
use case doesn't seem that useful...

So, is there a serious use case? Otherwise, we should probably consider
removing this attribute.
