Thoughts on moving DASL forward (was Re: Test)

Yes, the mailing list is still working. You're right to notice that there
hasn't been much mail on it recently. But, this certainly should not be
interpreted to mean that DASL is a dead activity. Quiescent is the term I
would use.

Basically, I think most of the WebDAV activity is focused on the Binding and
Redirect References protocols right now, and remaining time is consumed by
DeltaV. Unfortunately, the new people who had joined DASL to work just on
this protocol have moved on to other activities, leaving only (too busy) DAV
people on the list.

I've been waiting until the WebDAV advanced collections work was done before
re-energizing this group. I actually think DASL is pretty close to being
done. There are just a few issues that need to be hammered out, a new
revision of the spec. needs to be produced, and then we can last call it.
The current specification has been implemented, so it appears to be
technically sound. There are other groups that eagerly want to use the DASL
SEARCH method.

If people on the list are interested, there are several ways to get involved
(there's a reason the IETF calls these working groups, and not lurking
groups :-)

* While Jim Davis is still ready to act as (an) editor, I think he would
appreciate some help.

* It would also be great if someone would take charge of the issues list,
and drive forward the process of dealing with these issues (similar to how
Judy Slein has driven resolution of issues on the advanced collections work)

* In the WebDAV working group, conference calls have been a good vehicle for
resolving these issues. Volunteering to set up a regular conference call
series would also be a big help.

If have any ideas on these, please feel free to send me an email, or send a
message to the list.
